Paul Murphy : "Seven Samuri" A: Paul Murphy : "Budapest Chachacha" |
Paul Murphy releases the second single from his forthcoming album "The Trip" and this time moves from 1960's Soul Jazz to a Rock Steady Broken Beat Filmic Bass driven version of the Theme from the Akira Kurosawa cinema masterpiece "The Seven Samurai". Featuring special guest former Freakpower frontman Ashley Slater on trombone he has turned the tune into a Bass Bin Busting Skanking Monster , heavily influenced by Skatalites legend Don Drummond. On the
other side Paul's tribute to one of his favourite watering holes, a
truly underground bar based in a Metro station in downtown Budapest.
A latin jazz extravaganza with some blockbuster percussion and some
fine vibes from Roger Beaujolais and basswork from Davide Mantovani
and mysterious and moody vocals from top Hungarian recording artists
Secta Chameleon you'll be doing the Magyar Mambo all night long.

| AFRO
ART: We love Gerardo Frisinas tunes & finally met him at a festival
in Italy. "Do a tune for Afro Art?"" we asked and he did
two in fact. Side one is a Hot Percussive Latino Stomper and watch
that dancefloor explode when the Horns drop in, Side 2 is more Piano and
Percussion Funk Madness in the "Descarga" vein.... . Top stuff
and both will be dj delights for many years to come.
GERARDO
FRISINA: When Afro Art asked me to do a single I didn't hesitate
a second to accept. The sound that comes out of the productions of this
label is one of my favorites. The close attention to details they dedicate
to blending together the sound of musicians with electronic beats is
the result you get from their recordings...a sound which is unmistakable
theirs,a UNIQUE AND UNREPEATABLE ORGANOTRONIC SOUND. This single in
particular for "Afro Art" has that certain type of sound when
you hear it. Linking my name to the label that produces this sound,
which totally enters into my realm of musical taste,is a great great
pleasure. destined to be a very big dancefloor hit Sampsa Vilhunen HELSINKI it's some great stuff of gerardo frisina. 10/10 NU TROPIC Hot hot hot! Dope latin/descarga biz that will cause mayhem on dance floors all over the globe. Especially "Congart" is extra spicy! Mad Mats (Raw Fusion/Jugglin' Rec) "Alborado"
really explodes; mixes into any Freestyle set, it really lifts the most
flagging spirit. The consistently
excellent Afro Art join forces with the consistently excellent Frisina
to produce one of the hottest releases so far this year ,the reaction
from the crowds has been immense, if you don't find yourself dancing
to this it means you're probably dead. 2 heavy shakin, summer flavoured latin bombs for all the floors around! KiNSKi (Switchstance Recordings) 12"
percussion-bomb Alborado ,murder acoustic bass, a real latin-bomb! great! oliver kieser.velten Great idea
to have the Descarga don invited to do a track for Afro Art., dope latin
stuff for the dancefloor Mui bonito! I really love it, it's fresh and groovy, full support! Cristiano Spiller This record
really rocks the summer, warm caribbean and cuban atmospheres on fantastic
percussion grooves, this record is hot ! Franco Martinelli |

| Its not often that a small label like Afro Art can say "We signed a million selling artist!" but Chris is featured in the Coen Bros movie "O Brother Where Art Thou?" as Bluesman Tommy Johnson and as you may know the soundtrack sold bucketloads. He's also now one of most recognized and successful blues artist of his generation. The multi Grammy award winning musician and actor grew up as a child-prodigy guitarist learning the blues at the feet of some of the music's masters at the Baton Rouge, Louisiana club Tabby's Blues Box, owned by his father, Rockin' Tabby Thomas. If that ain't all he's in the Movie "Ray" and is currently working with new Hip Hop star Rhymefest (whos about to tour Europe). He & Afro Art got together via the magic of the internet and Afro Art Head Honcho Paul Murphy remixed one of the tracks from Chris's Album "Dirty South Hip-Hop Blues" . The Dub side is a bit dirty too what with all those grimy beats and feedback n stuff, it rocks out the dancefloor. We liked it so much we made it the A side . The Afrolatinblues side does exactly what it says on the tin. Its Afro , its Latin , its Blues, it's a Revelation! (and Kid Loco & Groove Armada's Tom Findlay love it..) |

A1
UFO in Brazil Weisz from Vienna sent us these two tracks on spec and we liked 'em so much we signed them immediately. (PLUS RICHARD DORFMEISTER SAID HE LOVED IT AND ADVISED US TO SIGN IT) He may be known to some of you as Megablast and has had many releases on the Stereo Deluxe label but is probably best known for his ace remix of THE STRIKE BOYS "Music Is In The Air" which came out about two years ago. The "A" side is a Broken Bass Bubbling percussive Dub with a very 1970's style blaxploitation synth riff that is finally topped off with an Afro-Beat Chorus very unique and always has people raising their heads over the turntables by the end of the record trying to figure out who its by. The sum of all its parts indeed! Already being bigged up by the likes of Rainer Truby (who loves It and rated it higher than Jazz Room) "That joint is the bomb!" Jon Horvath Fort Knox Five plus big ups from Glyn "Bigga" Bush , Mr Kruder and Mr Dorfmeister and man of the moment "Mad" Mats of Swedish Nu-Jazz Re-Edit label Raw Fusion Records. Already got a great review in "DJ" Mag too. On the "B" side Weisz collaborates on a Reggae influenced Broken Beater with his mate Marcus Wagner-Lapierre alias Wagner aka Makossa. |
